We are excited to announce a web based manager for Kong API Gateway from Mashape. We started using Kong couple of months back in our Sandbox API hosting feature. We mainly used key-authentication, rate limiting and ACL plugins.
Along the way we realized Kong needed a UI for convenience. Sometimes you can for get which plugins are active or which consumer needs a bigger limit. That’s why we coded ourselves a web based UI. After seeing strong demand on Kong github repo, we decided to share it with you. Enjoy!
One of first tasks after deploying Kong is to secure admin access. After some digging and knowhow exchange on Gitterhub channel we published a blog post – how to secure your Kong Admin . Since it takes several steps to achieve desired result we wanted to build something more convenient for our service.
If your Kong admin access is insecure, our system will automatically display a “Secure your Kong Admin Now” button on top right corner.
Let’s see how we can do it in a few steps:
Step 1. Connect to your Kong instance
Step 2. When you connect over port 8001, “Secure your Kong Admin Now” button will pop up.
Step 3. Click button and set authentication method.
Step 4. You are done! Don’t forget to update your firewall settings to block ports 8001 & 8443
You can do every operation Kong API supports using our web service. Sign up now and try it out. Your feedback is most welcome and you can reach me at berk[at]apiplug.com or using Help button on our site. Cheers!
